🔥 PHOENIX: Lightshow runs from 19 October to 2 November at York Minster—an immersive sound and light experience marking the anniversary of the devastating 1984 fire that tore through the cathedral’s South Transept.

This stunning new projection mapping installation by artists Ross Ashton and Karen Monid (creators of Northern Lights and Platinum and Light) brings the dramatic events of that night to life through powerful storytelling, light, and sound:

  • ⚡ Watch lightning strike the Minster, lead pour from the roof, and the Rose Window crack
  • 🔥 Relive the drama of the fire and its aftermath through archive accounts and testimony
  • 🛠️ See the rebuilding unfold, celebrating the skill, spirit and resilience of York’s people
  • đź’ˇ Bespoke projections transform the Nave into a vast storytelling canvas
  • 🎟️ Entry includes timed slots—visitors can stay as long as they like after entry
