Wild Uplands
Wild Uplands transforms the sweeping moorland of Penistone Hill Country Park, high above Haworth, into an open-air gallery for bold new contemporary art.
Curated by Shanaz Gulzar, Creative Director of Bradford 2025, this unique series brings together four acclaimed artists — Monira Al Qadiri, Meherunnisa Asad with Studio Lél, Vanessa Da Silva, and Steve Messam — each creating new site-specific works inspired by the area’s dramatic natural beauty and its industrial past as former quarries.
From striking sculptures and thought-provoking installations to a specially created sound walk called Earth & Sky (developed with Opera North), Wild Uplands reimagines this rugged landscape as a place to reflect on our connection to nature and the impact of the climate crisis.
An accompanying programme includes creative family workshops and special moments like summer solstice gatherings, with free Family Activity Maps available online and from local partners in Haworth.
Friendly Wild Uplands Volunteers will be on hand at weekends from June to September to answer questions and help visitors get the most out of this inspiring outdoor art trail.
