Pride and Prejudice at Pontefract Castle

Pontefract Castle hosts an open-air production of Pride and Prejudice on Friday 1 August 2025, brought back by Illyria to mark Jane Austen’s 250th birthday 🎉—and perfectly timed to celebrate Yorkshire Day too!

This sharp and spirited adaptation of the classic romance follows Lizzy Bennet and Mr. Darcy as they navigate a whirlwind of balls, eligible suitors, and biting social commentary—with plenty of wit and tension along the way.

Expect lively performances, clever comedy, and a fresh take on Austen’s beloved tale that’s anything but stuffy.

Gates open from 6pm, with the show starting at 7pm and finishing around 9.30pm–10pm. There’s a 15-minute interval, and the performance will go ahead rain or shine. Bring a picnic and enjoy an evening of literary fun in the castle grounds 🌿.
