Off the Shelf Festival of Words returns this autumn, transforming Sheffield into a citywide stage for live talks, readings and performances by renowned writers, poets and cultural voices from around the world.

From powerful memoirs to fresh poetry, witty storytelling to bold discussions, this year’s festival once again brings big names and exciting new talent together across October and November.

Programme highlights include:

  • Graham Fellows on the wonderfully mundane world of John Shuttleworth
  • Lemn Sissay reading from his moving dawn poems and acclaimed works
  • Simon Armitage and LYR blending poetry and music in a special live show
  • Kate Mosse sharing stories from her inspiring new feminist history for young people and adults alike
  • Mick Herron discussing Clown Town, the latest instalment of his bestselling Slough House spy series
  • A compelling conversation on race and inequality with Kenan Malik and Sunjeev Sahota
  • Alison Steadman looking back over her brilliant career from Abigail’s Party to Gavin and Stacey
  • Lucy Worsley diving into the secrets of Derbyshire’s Bolsover Castle and tales of 17th century intrigue
