Dark Skies Festival: North Yorkshire Moors
The Dark Skies Fringe Festival returns to the North York Moors from 24 October to 2 November 2025, offering ten nights of stargazing adventures, guided walks, creative workshops, and storytelling under some of the darkest skies in the UK.
Recognised as an International Dark Sky Reserve, the North York Moors hosts a packed programme of events, from night hikes and ghost train rides to astro-photography sessions and Gothic light shows at Whitby Abbey.
Highlights include expert talks from astronomers and authors, immersive folklore evenings, and live music under the stars.
The festival also promotes the importance of protecting dark skies for wildlife and wellbeing.
Visitors are encouraged to stay with Dark Skies Friendly accommodation providers to experience the magic for longer and support businesses helping preserve this unique environment.
Running alongside this celebration, the Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies Festival offers a parallel programme of celestial events across another of the UK’s most spectacular starry landscapes.
A wider celebration returns in February 2026, when the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales unite for the main Dark Skies Festival.
